Clarence Albert "Dinky" Wells, Jr., 64, of Weldon, NC died Tuesday, March 10, 2009 at Halifax Regional Medical Center.

Mr. Wells was born February 20, 1945, the son of the late Clarence Albert Wells, Sr. and Louise Cooper Wells. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Donald Wells. Mr. Wells was a United States Army veteran.

He is survived by four sisters, Bernice Lewter and her husband, James, of Roanoke Rapids, Marie Conwell and her husband, Steve, of Farmville, VA, Faye Richards of Harwood, MO and Mary "Penny" Boyce of Weldon; one brother, Gilbert Wells and his wife, Nancy, of Weldon; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Friday, March 13, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Askew Funeral & Cremation Services in Roanoke Rapids, which is handling the arrangements, with Rev. Steve Conwell officiating. Interment will follow at Cedarwood Cemetery in Weldon. The family will receive friends Thursday, March 12, from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. at the funeral home.

The flag in front of the funeral home flies at half-staff in honor of Mr. Wells’ service to his country.
